Week 8

Although I have pile of assignment to do I still spare some time for blogging. :D
I have finally got my digi number switched to digi campus:)))))

We went to the digi center together on wednesday and it took us half an hour waiting there to get the changing on packet process done.

We rushed back to campus after that and we were late for the talk for more than half an hour. When we walked into the lecture hall, only get to hear the words "Thank you" by the invited representative from CMS factory. =_=\\\
On the way to the CMS factory...

Zzzzz

Elaine and I

Three of them refused to look at my camera:(

Let me introduce my maid of the day:D

I got to try to bend the steel bars using this damn cool machine. It was fun though:)

All of us complained that the weather was HOT and it rained so suddenly when we were touring the factory.

My hair was as hard as the steel wires because of the wind blow and concrete that stuck onto my hair:(

We had lunch at Jade Pot Tea House after the urban tutorial last friday.

I like this^_^

and this :) the sour and spicy noodles soup.

It is time to date with my assignments again..

Indulge in the Uniquely Singapore experience

Indeed, it is so embarrassing for me to tell my friends that I have never been to Singapore before even though it is a neighbouring country that is so near to my country, Malaysia. I have been to other countries like Hong Kong, China and Thailand but, I have yet to set my foot on Singapore. So, I think I really need to, at least, go there once to experience the rich blend of cultures, cuisines, arts and also the architecture of Singapore. Being a big fan of the artistes of Singaporean dramas gives me more reasons to want to make a visit to Singapore.
(source: google, 2009)
In the world map, Singapore is just a very small island but I think it should be bigger than what I am made to expect it to be.

(source: google, 2009)

What I get to know from friends who have been to Singapore before, travelling around Singapore is very convenient and easy as the transportation networks are excellently provided. Singapore is also known as a garden city which is very clean and you can hardly see any rubbish thrown around. How I wish I were a Singaporean!

(source: google, 2009)

After doing some researches on the foods and places that are available in Singapore, I would love to start my 1-day itinerary by strolling along the colorful streets of Little India and be dazzled by the hive of activities that permeate every nook and cranny of the area in the morning.

(source: google, 2009)
Here I will get to visit the Mustafa centre – Singapore’s 24-hour shopping mall which has as varied a clientele as it does contents.

Next, I will want to drop by at the Bugis Street because this lane presently is touted as 'Bugis Street' by the Singapore Tourist Promotion Board. From what I have been told, Bugis Street is Singapore’s largest and most exciting and crowded street shopping destination. It’s more or less like Sungai Wang in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Bugis Street which has more than 600 over retail outlets offering attractive and famous fashions in Singapore is sure to satisfy the most discerning shoppers.
(source: google, 2009)
Besides that, I will be able to visit the places which carry the name of "Bugis" at Bugis Street. They are New Bugis Street, Bugis Square, Bugis Village, Bugis Junction, Parco Bugis Junction, Bugis Junction Towers, Bugis Cineplex, Bugis Music World, and so on. Talking about shopping in Singapore, it will be a right choice to shop at Bugis Street because this is one place that is selling clothes and goods at cheap and reasonable prices. According what I have read about this place, it is almost like Tanah Abang Market which is located in Jakarta, Indonesia. While touring around the street, I will like to try out the various roadside food vendors along the original Bugis Street and I will also not want to miss out on the famous $1 ice-cream, for sure.

(source: everydaysingapore, 2009)
As Singapore is also well-known as a city that is famous as a food center, I plan to have my lunch at some restaurants or food center which are located at the Bugis Street Village or around the Bugis Street. I will also love to try out their famous and recommended fish balls, fish cakes, beef noodles, Singapore laksa, Nyonya Kuih and other yummy yet inexpensive foods.

After filling my stomach with all those delicious food, I will, next go on a tour around the Sentosa Island. I would prefer to take a ride to the Mount Faber for a cable car ride to Sentosa Island so that I will have a good bird's eye view of Mount Faber, one of Singapore highest points, and would also not miss out on the panoramic view of the world's busiest harbour below and also be able to experience the ride going uphill and downhill at the same time.
(source: google, 2009)
Hopping onto the island's shuttle and heading for the Merlion, an iconic structure standing on a 23m high hillock overlooking Sentosa will be my first move once I have reached the Island. It offers a 360 degree view of Sentosa as well as a panoramic view of Singapore's southern shore. I will not want to miss out on the free bus service that runs round the island before my trip around Sentosa Island actually commences.
(source: google, 2009)
Sentosa's Underwater World, one of most popular attractions on the island will be my next stop after touring around the island in the shuttle bus. According to the tour brochure, it has an 80-metre transparent acrylic tunnel which allows you to view over 2,500 sea creatures in close proximity. Being transported through the tunnel by a travellator, you get the impression of having stepped under water, deep into the ocean.
(source: google, 2009)
With fearsome sharks, gigantic stingrays, moray eels, turtles, sea dragons and fishes of all sizes, stripes and colours swimming next to and over you will get the adrenaline rush down your body.
(source: google, 2009)

And I will be sure to catch the latest additions to the Underwater World family -- pink dolphins, electric eels, a dugong and piranhas and also not miss out on the feeding time, when a diver offers small fish to swarms of hungry sea creatures.
(source: google, 2009)

Back from Sentosa Island, a visit to the Esplanade, the latest multi-million dollar theatre located in Marina Bay and also the Merlion, which is the icon of Singapore, will provide me with the unique attractions of modern Singapore. I will want to take some photographs of myself with the Merlion and Esplanade as background together with the sunset in the distant sky. Visiting the Esplanade performing act center is also a must for those who like to see live dramas in action but I think I will skip it because I do not have an interest in it.
(source: google, 2009)

After this, I will wish to have an Italian buffet dinner at Pete's Place which is recommended in the Singapore food cuisine website after my whole day trip. Since it is located at Orchard Road, I will also get the opportunity to walk around the shopping malls-window shopping if time permits.
(source: google, 2009)
After finishing dinner, my tour continues on a driven visit past the Fountain of Wealth before paying a visit to the Singapore Flyer.

(source: google, 2009)
At 165 metres the Singapore Flyer is the largest observation wheel in the world. The 35 minutes in the wheel will afford me with the enjoyment of breathtaking views of the Marina Bay and the island of Singapore.
(source: google, 2009)
And guess what? The fun doesn't stop there. The wheel is home to wide range of shops, restaurants, activities and facilities. So I must not miss out on it too.
(source: google, 2009)

(source: google, 2009)
To complete my Night Adventure Singapore Flyer Tour, I will board a traditional bum boat for a picturesque ride up the River which is located at the Raffles Landing Site, at the mouth of the Singapore River to enjoy the night view of Singapore.
(source: google, 2009)
That will conclude my tour in Singapore after the Night Adventure Singapore Flyer tour.

Mid- sem build activity 09'

Mid-sem is coming to an end soon.

Habitat club is having a build activity every semester break and this is no exception during this semester break.
This time, the build activity project took place at Kampung Tabuan Rabak which is located off 10th mile Jalan Penrissen. There was a total of 27 of us turned out to be the volunteer this time. Thank you for all of your supports ^_^

We were constructing a concentre house this time so which a new experience for all of us.

a group picture before we started

As there is no water supply in that area, so we have to get water from a big drain using the old traditional method of drawing water from the drain using a backet tied at one end of the rope. This is really fun, trust me ^_^

We have to sprinkle water on the surface of the wall to dampen it before we started plastering the wall.

This is definitely not an easy task, the concrete is so heavy especially when it is really wet. (the water content inside makes it heavier) If the mixed concrete is too dry, the concrete will not stick onto the wall and will fall off.

As I have mentioned earlier, there is no water supply at that area except certain houses. @_@.. Before having our lunch, we have to walk a distance to get water to clean off the concentre that has stucked on our hands.

Guess what??? I found rambutan trees.. hahahax

After our lunch, it was time to do work again. We need to mix the concrete for 2nd round.

This is what will happen when you do not have the skill to do plastering.
*tada*

Cleaned all the tools used during the plastering work before we left

Another group picture before we left. *cheese*

The bestest best friends

I went out with my parents to get myself a new handphone but model that I want has no stock:(
Then, there is a hang out with my bestest best friends (I do not know can these two words be used together?) since Yian is going back to Johor again tomorrow. I don't feel sad at all because she is coming back every holiday:)))))))

Yian got herself a new phone and since her handphone camera is so much better than all of us so we used her hp camera to camwhore.

Basically what we will do during every outing are have lunch/dinner together, talk whatever we want to share and I will usually get angry when they don't listen to me :P

Raya visiting

My long awaited mid-sem break is started next week :D
I've done my matlab and submitted it already, FINALLY. I'm glad that this the last and there is no more matlab assignments for me.

Hari Raya comes once a year and I enjoyed it very much by going house to house with a group of friends. However, this year, I have only visited to 3 houses which are one of my favourite teacher in high school, a friend's house and my auntie's house (I have a malay auntie because her husband is a malay) :). No doubt, I have pile of assignments waiting for me to complete. I do not feel so stressful as in previous semesters because I believed that I will finally find a way/solution to my problems. There is always a solution if you are willing to think of it.

My favourite... teacher told us she made this specially for us because she expected us to go to her house this year and I knew she lied XP

The colourful layer cakes

and various types of handmade cookies
Cousin and I

Sad to say, this is the only photo I have in my laptop.
Awwww... I guess both of your reputations have been spoilt already since the day I posted this photo in my facebook.. HAHAHAHA

I've no idea why I look so pale in every photo I have taken that day.At Shaqirah's house.

Bad william sat on the lion! Pity the lion:(

Shaqirah's mom is definitely a good cook because all the food her mom has prepared tasted so delicious:) *wink*

On our way back from Shaqirah's house, they taught me to use the new tol and we were lost, really lost. I even been to Borneo Conventional Center and I saw the Flour factory. Don't envy me ;)

Geomechanics

We have soil drilling fieldwork carried out last Tuesday at an empty land just opposite Swinburne. Each group consisted of 10 students were assigned to drill 3 boreholes in order to collect the soil samples at different depth of minimum 0.9m for soil testing.

This is definitely not an easy task.
She has been used up all her calories that derived from her breakfast just to rotate and push the auger into the soil.
Luckily, we have 3 strong guys in our group :DDD

After drilling to a certain depth, we need to extract the soil beneath the earth from the borehole and then classify and describe them based on the strength/density of soil, the colour of soil, the moisture condition and the plasticity of fines.

Soil sample that got from borehole with high plasticity :)

Another soil sample with medium plasticity

The ground is hard even though there was no rocks found in the boreholes that we have chosen. However, after drilling for some times, we were still not able to reach our targeted depth, 1.5m. Someone came out with this brilliant idea.

my turn.. :P
With our weights added down on the auger, we managed to drill down extra few meters. Finally, we managed to drill to 1.5m. The entire process of soil drilling was fun and interesting I can say but was very tiring and exhausting. Overall, we spent more than 3 hours to complete drilling 3 boreholes. Everyone was exhausted after all.
